Whitsun vacation in the Montafon
This is what the perfect summer vacation looks like
Isabel from Südwestliebe tells
We love vacationing in Austria, always in different wonderful places. This year we found a particularly nice accommodation in Schruns: the Adler Alpen Apartments in a central location. They offer the perfect starting point for excursions into the diverse Alpine region: in summer you can go hiking in the mountains, in winter you can hit the slopes. We are happy to give you tips that will make your summer vacation unforgettable.
From bread roll service to top-equipped kitchen
To start the day in the best mood, you need a hearty breakfast. From bed straight to the breakfast table, the bread roll service makes it possible. The day before you order at reception: pretzel sticks, croissants, grain rolls and more. Your bread bag is delivered directly to the apartment door in the morning. Enjoy the taste!
You come home hungry in the evening after a long hike and don’t feel like going out to a restaurant again? Then just cook something yourself. The kitchenette is equipped with all the must-haves: plenty of plates and glasses, everything is well maintained and clean. Oven, stove, refrigerator: everything available and in top condition.
Great family excursion destinations nearby
Very close to the Adler Alpen Apartments there is a very nice playground directly on the Litz, which you can reach on foot in about five minutes. To get to know the town of Schruns, I recommend the so-called Gaglaweg, a children’s town rally. The tourist information office will give you a book to show you the way. For a rental fee of 50 euros, you will also receive a high-quality Vaude hiking rucksack containing a compass, measuring tape, thermometer and binoculars. If all the questions are answered correctly, the reward is a drinking glass with the mascot Erna and Schruns lettering. What a lovely memory to take home! Tip: There are also so-called Gaglawege in the neighboring villages, eleven in total. The kids quickly get into collecting fever, as there are also jars as rewards in the other tourist information centers.
Adventure mountain Golm
An adventure for the whole family
As a family mountain, the Golm is so versatile that there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. After mumbling a little at the marble run, we made our way to the forest slide park. By the way: it is the largest forest slide park in Europe. Stay tuned! The route to the slides is perfectly signposted and there is an information board at each of the seven tube slides. Here is some basic information for you: a total of seven tube slides with a length of between 30 and 62 meters, suitable for children from the age of four, sturdy shoes are required. But please note: the slide path is not suitable for baby carriages. However, there is a way past the slides if one of you doesn’t want to slide.
Golm forest rope park – climbing under expert supervision
After the adventure is before the adventure and so it was on to the Waldseilpark, the largest high ropes course in Vorarlberg. You don’t need any special previous experience, you will be competently instructed and provided with high-quality climbing equipment. There are a total of 17 different courses with varying degrees of difficulty – at a height of up to 16 meters. Please note: Children under the age of ten need to be accompanied by an adult when climbing, and the minimum height for the classic forest rope park is 1.20 meters. For the younger ones there is a dwarf course, great!
Alpine Coaster – what fun
The kids didn’t want to leave at all, but we really wanted to take the Alpine Coaster down into the valley. The all-weather toboggan run has it all: 44 jumps, a 360° traffic circle, 15 180° hairpin bends. The track is 2.6 kilometers long, so you’ll be on the road for several minutes. This is almost limitless riding fun, which I have never experienced in this length before. The kids were also thrilled and would have loved to go up again. Highly recommended, the Golm family mountain shows its best side. Experience an adventurous day on the Golm, you won’t regret it.
A day trip to Feldkirch is worthwhile
WILDLIFE PARK FELDKIRCH – FREE EXCURSION DESTINATION
We started the morning with a children’s city rally. You can get the booklet for free at the tourist information office in Palais Liechtenstein in Schlossergasse. Several questions need to be solved, after which you are real Feldkirch experts. Sightseeing is also great fun for children and you can playfully explore all the relevant corners of this wonderful city. The last stop of the children’s town rally is the Montforthaus, from where you can walk to Schattenburg Castle in just a few minutes. It is considered THE landmark of the city and is definitely worth a visit. From up there you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city center. Immerse yourself in a bygone world at the Schattenburg Museum. You can choose between a guided tour or a visit on your own. For the latter private adventure, you can purchase a family guide suitable for children for 3.80 euros at the museum ticket office.
In the afternoon, we continued by car to the wildlife park, where we explored the local wildlife. Make sure you take some change with you, as there are various food vending machines available. There is also a small beer garden where you can stop for a bite to eat while the kids pet the goats and other animals. And last but not least, you can let off steam in the large, idyllic forest playground. Top: The Feldkirch Wildlife Park is free to visit, donations are welcome.
Thanks to Südwestliebe for your visit!
