One thing is certain: When you come to ski touring in the Montafon, it is difficult to decide where to start and where to stop: Nestled between the Silvretta, Rätikon and the Verwall group, in the border area between Switzerland and Austria, the Montafon offers countless ski touring opportunities: Ski touring, to extensive ski touring traverses, from steep climbs to high alpine deep snow descents – in the south of Vorarlberg you will find the best conditions for every touring adventure: slopes of all expositions, forests, altitudes of over 3,000 meters, the glaciers of the Silvretta, rustic huts and snow up to well into spring. We are already itching our touring legs and we would like to introduce you to some of our favorite tours for different demands.
To the Lindauer Hütte (1,744m): Enjoyable ski tour in two ways
Distance: 5.9km ascent / descent: 729hm Duration: approx. 2:30 hours (+ countless possible combinations)
Difficulty: easy to the Lindauer Hütte; The combination options offer every difficulty
The ski tour to the Lindauerhütte is an all-rounder : The tour leads from the center of Tschagguns / Latschau (parking lot at the fire station) through the picturesque Gauertal, known as one of the most beautiful valley ends in the Alps. Most of the ascent takes place over a goods road and only at the end over a weak ridge – so ideal for Ski touring beginners suitable. The toboggan, too, can make the Lindauer Hütte the perfect day’s destination for everyone family power. for ambitious tourers the Lindauer Hütte offers many possible combinations: Sulzfluh, Großer Drusenturm, Drusenfluh through the Blodigrinne (difficult), Öfakopf, Geisspitze, Drusentor, … to name just a few. On top of that, the Lindauer Hütte is also highly recommended from a culinary point of view!
Madrisa round tour – short climbs, long descents
Distance: 24.8 km ascent: 750 m descent: 2789 m Duration: approx. 5:00 – 6:00 hours
Difficulty: easy, but safe skiing technique is a prerequisite
for Cross-border commuters and powder addicts : The Madrisa round tour is THE tour for everyone who comes to short climbs long descents want to enjoy. With lift and bus support performs this cross-border Ski touring circuit from Gargellen to neighboring Switzerland . Then on to Klosters and over the Schlappiner Joch back to Gargellen. The famous Madrisa is circled. A variant also leads over the Rätschenhorn (2,703 m) to neighboring Switzerland.
The Piz Buin (3,312m) – a great destination for those with strong stamina
Distance: 22.8 km Ascent: 1,340 m descent: 1,340 m Duration: approx. 8:30 hours
Difficulty: ZS + (quite difficult) after SAC scale
The famous Piz Buin towers imposingly over the Ochsental Glacier and forms the highest point in Vorarlberg. A breathtaking mountain panorama spreads from the summit: the view extends from the Wildspitze to the Ortler and into the Bernina Group. The ski tour to this impressive summit requires a lot of technical skill and fitness. The starting point is the Piz Buin inn on the Bielerhöhe. The long path can be divided into four sections: Past the Silvretta reservoir, it goes a long way through the Ochsental. Past the impressive glacier break, we continue south to the upper Geltscher plateau. On the Buinlücke between Kleines (3,255m) and Big Piz Buin, you can take off your skis. The last 300 m ascent to the summit is easy climbing.
